We are called to serve…..Last night, my family was invited to attend a benefit in Dell Rapids, SD for Isabella. She is a special little girl who at 18 mo. is fighting Cancer. Her family invited Jeren as a “pass it on family”. Her family and community of Dell Rapids was called to serve and spread God’s love through their love for Isabella. God’s presence was felt through the space as support, love, and prayers intertwined through people’s conversations and hugs. It brought so many connections to my mind not only through struggles, and Faith but so much more. This family and community brought little Jeren into their loving arms. What they probably didn’t realize was Dells was the first community I ever belonged to. I was born at the Dell Rapids Hospital, baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, and lived there for the first 2 years of my life. Harold and Louella Hansen took care of me during the day so my parents could work. My mom, Mary Lou Wiebersick taught at St. Mary’s for 2 years. It was her first teaching job. My parents started their life together right in this same community that was welcoming us back. They lived in Dell Rapids for three years. Surreal huh? I started connecting more as I realized that little Isabella’s mommy and I worked together at the Citibank Family Center for three years. Our rooms were diagonal from each other. We lost connection with our lives heading in different directions but were reunited through our children. Unfortunately, I didn’t get the chance to hug Jane because God took her before our paths could cross again. Yet, I know she is her daughter’s guardian angel. Connections. Isabella’s close family friend that helped set up the benefit, Lori Bangasser and I are both nieces to my Aunt Jody Wiebersick just from different sides…..Isabella is fighting Histiocytosis. My God Mother, Judy Struck’s Grandson Nick just beat this same kind of Cancer. He is also a nephew to my Aunt Jody. His family was there to show support for this new family on the same kind of journey…..everyone connected and intertwined without even knowing ahead of time. The other “pass it on” family honored was Kallie Brovold. She is a five year old little girl fighting brain Cancer. I taught her brother Kaiden last year in First grade. Her momma, from Kallie’s Hospital Room in Mayo paged Dr.’s to her room to hear Jeren’s Story and now we are on our way to Mayo this week. Are all these connections happenstance or did God start weaving our lives together early on to prepare us for His plan now? Three families fighting through their struggles connected by Faith…three families united, entwined hearts, and lives all because of interactions once upon a time….three families that will never be the same because God gave us each other. Isabella, Kallie, and Jeren are fighters. God knew exactly what he was doing. Angel of God wrap your loving wings around our little miracles. Give them the strength they need to continue on their journey. Thank you for connecting our families and our communities. Thank you for calling us to serve and spread your love amongst us. Continue to work the Holy Spirit through our Doctors hands as they help our little ones bodies heal. Thank you for one more day. Thank you for the miracle of life and the endless possibilities that are before us because we believe in you. In your name we pray. Amen Please continue to keep these three fighters in your prayers! xoxox The Scheffs
