We are coming down to the wire! In less than a week, subsidized - TopicsExpress

We are coming down to the wire! In less than a week, subsidized Stafford loan interest rates are set to double from 3.4% to 6.8%. If Congress fails to act, the cost of an education will rise by $1,000 per student per loan. This leaves millions of people already struggling with student debt to bear an even heavier burden. However, the United States Student Association and the Oregon Student Association believe that EDUCATION IS A RIGHT. #StudentDebt in this county has already surpassed ONE TRILLION dollars. The number of individuals and families impacted shows that we need a comprehensive overhaul of the federal student loan policy. By extending the low rate, Congress will be doing the right thing for low- and moderate- income families who receive Federal Subsidized Stafford loans. If extended, Congress will demonstrate its commitment to moving federal student loan policy toward affordability and equity for ALL, not just the privileged few. Congress and President Obama agree that we need solutions for this problem; thus it is our responsibility to push our elected leaders to act before the July 1st expiration date. #DontDoubleMyRate! Send a message to your U.S. Senators and Representatives asking them to stand with students and extend the 3.4% Stafford loan interest rate, here:salsa.wiredforchange/o/2707/p/dia/action3/common/public/?action_KEY=8172
