We are excited to announce that Open Streets Gainesville is coming to Gainesville, Florida on Sunday, October 5 from 11 am to 3 pm. The event will be held on University Avenue from Main Street to 13th Street. The total event length is approximately 0.9 miles. Open streets initiatives temporarily close streets to automobile traffic, so that people may use them for walking, bicycling, dancing, playing, and socializing. The event is co-sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation, the City of Gainesville, Gainesville Citizens for Active Transportation (GCAT), Gainesville Cycling Club (GCC), GetFit GNV, and Bike Florida. Participation is free and attendees are encouraged to support local businesses by purchasing drinks, food, goods, and services. Businesses along the route are encouraged to be open and have a presence on the street to engage participants.
