We are happy to share the fourth story of gender discrimination and a moving message from prominent Uzbek women. Today we are sharing the story from the People’s Artist and an Honourable Performer Toti (To’ti) Yusupova. Ms Yusupova tells a very sad story of what she had to go through to overcome obstacles on her way to become an actress in a deeply traditional society where she was brought up – provincial Samarkand! The young Toti had a dream of acting on stage whereas her father, brothers and male relatives thought of it as betrayal for their family. Chased by her relatives throughout Tashkent’s art schools during the Soviet times, Yusupova had to survive by hiding in the homes of classmates, supportive family friends and sometimes her mentors. Today, the national treasure Toti Yusupova shares a deeply personal and perhaps the most painful memory of a long fight for her dreams and the life she wanted to live. She uses the opportunity to speak up against denigration, bias and discrimination towards girls and women going through similar challenges imposed on them by the society. https://youtube/watch?v=BNyDNk-nVgY&list=UUI_KrnYANJxmPlFxGTEyerw
