We are heartbroken and angry over Goyas death. ACC is saying its cancer, but fluid in the lungs sounds like pneumonia, which many of the dogs had contracted within the walls of this pound. Rescues and private adopters had to raise thousands of dollars to save their rescued babies all over again . GOYA was surrendered by his family on 1/2, he was QARH, QUIET, ALERT, RESPONSIVE, HYDRATED. He was well enough to be released to a foster on the 9th. They made this policy that dogs in their Foster program canNOT be pulled by NH rescues. Once again, their rotten system killed GOYA. Goya died heartbroken not understanding why his family put him in a gloomy sick place like the ACC. SLEEP WITH ANGELS DEAR GOYA. GOD NEEDED AN ANGEL, HERE IS WHAT THE ACC POSTED ABOUT GOYA. Animal Care & Control of NYC (AC&C) It is with a very heavy heart that we share the news that Goya, a 4 year old dog surrendered to us earlier this month, has died. Shortly after Goyas arrival we found that he was having difficulty adjusting to being in a kennel, so our Foster team arranged for Goya to be placed in a loving home where he could decompress and prepare for eventual adoption into a new family. When Goyas health did not improve AC&C brought him to a 24-hour emergency center for specialized medical care, including oxygen treatments, antibiotic therapy, radiograph and ultrasound exams. In the early morning hours of January 17, Goyas health took a significant turn for the worse. An emergency veterinarian performed an ultrasound study of his chest which revealed a large volume of fluid on both sides of his chest. The hospital removed one liter of non-clotted blood from his chest and concluded that cancer was likely the cause of Goyas illness. To alleviate any further suffering, the decision was made to humanely euthanize Goya. Goya’s illness exemplifies the difficulty with which some medical cases are diagnosed and treated. Goya received a tremendous amount of interest due to the extensive networking efforts of those who shared his story on social media. In all, close to 1,000 inquiries were made regarding his adoption. We share this loss with everyone who followed Goyas journey and for those who were personally touched by Goya including our staff, volunteers and the Veterinarians and staff at the emergency center. We are also thankful for our wonderful Foster caretaker, a very special person who provided Goya with love, attention and treats during his stay in their home.
