We are home. The tooth was cracked, and had been for a while. - TopicsExpress

We are home. The tooth was cracked, and had been for a while. One little piece of debris from food, bacteria or whatever, managed to make its way down that crack, and cause the abscess..... I have the best husband in the world. He took a personal day to come with me. Why? Because he knows that his wife has this little secret: A dread fear phobia of dentists. Dread enough to make me wait until Im in such pain I have no alternative than to go. A phobia that will have me white knuckled, ashen faced, cold sweated, and nauseous. Just showing up for a dental appointment is a major accomplishment for me. If I know its something simple I can usually handle it, but when it comes to something that will require novocaine, and or a drill, Im done for. A lot of people dont understand phobias. They dont understand the irrationality of it all. But Nick stood by my side, held my hand, and let me dig my nails into hands until he had deep marks from them. The tooth came out hard, and part of its root got left behind, so you can imagine what happened next....drill time. I made it through, but cried, as silently as I could through it all. Novacaine doesnt last long for me, in fact, we werent even gone from that office an hour, before it wore off completely. So Im always scared that it will wear off midway through whatever I need done, and then Ill feel every second of it.... Why do I have this? I dont know. Unless the dentists I had as a kid (one of which was brutal, hed slap you if you cried.) left such emotional scars that I just cant get past the idea. Phobias are real. Im proud of myself today. I made it through the extraction, and hopefully I dont have to have any more of them. So we are home now, Nick took me to get my pain meds, and some foods I will actually be able to eat, and he takes the best care of me. Thank you honey I love you for it :)
