We are indeed thrilled to welcome Amy Schlatter, our newest SMS staff member and joining our second grade teaching team with Andy Martone. Amy grew up in Ohio where she graduated with a BA in elementary education from Wittenberg University. During her 7th year of teaching third grade, she developed a passion for helping families connect good nutrition to academic/behavioral performance. Amy has served on many BCSD committees, working to create a healthy school culture in all elementary schools. Amy has focused most of her professional development on character development, disciplinary theories, and differentiation strategies for mathematics and language arts. Shes working on acquiring her Waldorf teaching certification. Amy and her husband, Mike, have lived in the valley since 2000. She chose to be a stay at home mom when her three children were born, and went ahead and acquired a Masters of Science degree in Holistic Nutrition during this time. For the past two years, Amys enjoyed linking her two passions of wellness and education by serving as nutrition educator for BCSD schools. Amy has embraced and is immersing herself in the Waldorf approach to education. She believes it is the method that can unite our communities and world, and is thrilled to join the teaching staff at SMS.
