We are inviting Christians everywhere to take time out just to focus on God. Feel free to use the format below or develop your own. This is how and why we get together to focus on God. The video shows a shortened version of what we do. Each person in the group usually reads a psalm at the beginning after opening prayer and we usually have communion at the end. FOCUSING ON GOD 1-Meet in groups of three to six. More than six can be in the group if necessary. 2-The first person selects a word or phrase that focuses on God and getting closer to Him (i.e. God’s presence, love, compassion, surrender). That person then prays for 30 to 45 seconds concerning that word or phrase. 3-Then everyone in the circle prays about that same word or phrase one at a time for 30 to 45 seconds. 4-When all have prayed, the first person then reads a related scripture and comments on what it is saying to him or her for no more than two minutes. Each person in the circle comments on the same scripture for no more than two minutes. 5-When it is your turn the process starts over with you. The process is repeated until all in the circle have selected a word or phrase, prayed and shared a scripture to comment on. If six people are in the group, by the end of one circuit, the group will have prayed 36 times and commented on scripture 36 times. There is no intercessory prayer, because that focuses on what the person or circumstance that you are praying for and not the Lord. There is no discussion of personal problems or social issues because the focus is on the person with the problem or the issue and not the Lord. This is to be totally about the Lord and how to develop a closer relationship with Him. It is about praising Him, worshipping him and thinking about Him and your relationship to Him right now in the moment. If you thank Him for something, your mind is on something in the past. If you ask Him for something, your mind is on the future. While there is a time for these types of prayer, this is not the time. This time is to be dedicated totally to the Lord. No titles in the circle: No bishop, pastor, reverend, deacon, pope, etc. The only title is Lord of Lords and King of Kings. If that is not you, then your title has no place in the circle. The focus is only on the Lord. When Judas admonished Mary for using precious oil to wash the feet of Jesus saying that the oil could be sold and the money given to the poor, Jesus said, “The poor you have with you always. This is done for me.” Whatever kind of ministry you are doing, you will always have time to do it. Take this time out for Jesus. Do this for the Lord.
