We are looking for “Assisted Operations Support Engineer” for South Africa (13 Positions); Purpose of position: South Africa region based - provision of pro-active technical support for Tellabs customers. Delivery of Low Level Design of Tellabs product and integrating specific Tellabs product nodes into the network and onto the INM. Provision of written reports and analysis for interventions. Ongoing maintenance of Customer network reference documentation. Participate in on site assistance, commissioning, acceptance and handover of customer systems. Provision of written install/commissioning reports including detailed low level designs. Primary Responsibilities: Strong router skills gained in an ISP, operator, and service provider or manufacturer environment. Must have an intimate working knowledge of at least 2 of the following; IP, DWDM, ATM and Ethernet (L2 switching). Candidates with a combination of IP and DWDM will be given preferential attention. Practical experience of operating OSPF, BGP and IP-VPN’s is essential. Must understand MPLS and have detailed knowledge of Martini/Pseudo-wire circuits and VPLS. Knowledge of SDH and TDM an advantage. Specific requirements are: • Strong IP skills are required in order to troubleshoot network related issues. • A good understanding of OSPF, ISIS, QoS and BGP is required. • A good understanding of MPLS and its related technologies such as RSVP-TE, LDP and the various protection techniques associated with such technology is a must. The configuration of LSP1+1, fast reroute etc. and traffic engineering techniques will be required. An understanding of the various LSP types such as ELSPs and LLSPs will also be advantageous. • Pwe3 service provisioning via the 8000 INM is a requirement, therefore a good understanding of the INM is a must. The tools associated with the INM such as FMS/Node Manager, Network Editor, Node Editor, LSP Provisioning tool and the service provisioning tools are day to day requirements. He/she must be capable of using such tools. • Node discovery and decommissioning of 8600 nodes will be required. Be fully conversant and capable of configuring the 8600 network elements. This could be as simple as making a small parameter change, or a physical card swap change. • Perform any upgrades to the nodes that are deemed necessary, with consent and agreement from all stake holders first.
