We are loving camping week! Yesterday we had more campfire fun - TopicsExpress

We are loving camping week! Yesterday we had more campfire fun pretending to build a fire and then creating our own. We talked about how you make a campfire - first you have to carefully chop the wood, then gather kindling which can be small twigs, newspaper or dryer sheets, then you use a match, a flint or a lighter to set the kindling on fire. You have to blow on it very slowly to help the fire catch and then once it is lit you can pile the wood on. We made our own "fire" with red orange and yellow construction and tissue paper. We reviewed the shapes of the fire, triangles and squares, then we got pieces of wood and we laid them on the bottom of the page then we stuck our "fire" all on top. While we were doing this we talked about fire safety - how you should never touch fire, only grown ups should light them and how we should never run near a fire pit because we could fall in and get burned. Today we did one of the best camping activities - a nature hike! We hiked all around the backyard picking up things from nature that we thought were interesting and cool. We used glue to stick them onto cardboard and created a classroom nature collage. It came out really cool! When we came in we practiced cutting with scissors. We cut rectangles and circles to add to our fire pictures. We drew a face on the circle then glued the rectangle below it to make ourselves in sleeping bags by the fire. Finally we stuck gold stars all along the top to complete our night time camping scene. What a great week we are having!
