We are pleased to announce that we now carry a variety of Immaculate Baking Products at Natures Harvest. About Immaculate Baking: The Immaculate Story IN THE BEGINNING. The story of Immaculate Baking Company wouldn’t have begun without entrepreneur Scott Blackwell, who fell in love with creating and selling treats at the tender age of 7. After his 1st-grade tenure as a purveyor of Willie Wonka kit bars, his grandmother took him under her wing and taught him the art of superior home baking. Through college he baked and supplied 28 restaurants with pies to pay his way. Soon after, he became the ninth Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream distributor in the country. But once an entrepreneur, always an entrepreneur. Scott sold his Ben & Jerry’s distribution in 1989 and moved to Columbia, SC to open Immaculate Consumption, a restaurant with his all natural sandwiches, baked goods, and fresh roasted coffee and espresso on the menu. THE TOUGH YEARS. In 1993, Scott sold the restaurant and moved to Flat Rock where, out of his garage, he made and sold artisan coffee and cookies packaged in plain brown bags During those tough early years, Scott took several road trips around the South to recharge, discovering folk art and artists along the way. Drawn to their simplicity, creativity, resilience and resourcefulness he decided to celebrate them by featuring their work on his cookie and coffee packages. THE BIG BREAK. Thinking bigger, Scott hit the road with his cookies. At his first West Coast trade show in San Francisco in 1997, a man named Chuck Williams exited the show with several Apple Pie cookies in his pocket. Scott received an order from Williams-Sonoma the following week. To mark the birth of his first child, Liam, in 1999, Scott created the Leapin’ Lemon cookie. The following year, it won the award for Most Outstanding Cookie in America at the Summer Fancy Food Show in New York. And Immaculate was off to the races! GROWING UP. Needless to say, the garage was becoming a little small for the growing company. Immaculate moved into an old metal shop in downtown Hendersonville, NC. But soon, even this space was bursting at the seams with production and staff. We moved into our a brand new, 12,000 square foot facility in 2002. That same year, Immaculate was recognized as North Carolina Business of the Year. FOLK ART. Around this time, Scott established the Folk Artist’s Foundation to give support, aid, encouragement and exposure to artists working in the folk art tradition. Scott also developed the award-winning Edible Art Box, a cookie kit celebrating Immaculate’s love of baking and the creativity of American Folk Art. “WBC.” On May 17, 2003, after many, many months of secret research and development — codename “WBC” –Immaculate baked the World’s Biggest Cookie. The cookie weighed 38,000 pounds and measured over 102 ft. long – a record that holds to this day. SPREADING ART…AND COOKIES. In 2004 Scott and the Immaculate’s Artreach Van, an outreach program pairing folk artists with kids, travelled with artist Leonard Jones, sharing his art and baking 10 foot cookies. He also established the Soul Food Fund to support, nurture and celebrate creativity. Still an avid folk art collector Scott dipped into the world of filmmaking to complete the 10-year documentary project about Southern folk artists entitled “All Rendered Truth.” NEW ERA, SAME IMMACULATE. Since 2008, we’ve launched our lines of refrigerated baking doughs to high acclaim and many happy tummies. Beginning with ready to bake cookie dough, we introduced Chocolate Chunk, Triple Chocolate, and Vanilla Sugar, all made with organic flour and sugar, as well as our Naturally Delicious flavors like decadent Supremes, Ginger Spice, and Peanut Caramel Milk Chocolate. Immaculate also committed to changing the face of the canned dough market by bringing popular items like Cinnamon and Crescent Rolls, as well as Biscuits and Scones, to consumers nationwide. Most importantly, the past few years have been times of intense listening. You asked for Gluten Free options, and we responded with new, delicious Gluten Free products. We also forged an early partnership with the Non-GMO Project and re-introduced our canned dough products with Non-GMO Project verification. We are also pursuing this verification on every product we make, including cookie dough and pie crusts. In 2013, we joined General Mills. We see this partnership as a positive means of growing our business with additional resources while remaining committed to the integrity of our products and the great taste consumers love. This new partnership allows us to concentrate on research, development, and wider distribution while remaining committed to creating the best-tasting, wholesome treats you’ve depended on us for. And so, we’re a little bigger than we were. We’re a little better-known than we were. And we’ve launched a full line of delicious refrigerated doughs — wholesome, organic, some gluten free — beyond our cookie origins. But at heart, we’re the same Immaculate — dedicated to premium taste and ingredients, art and fun. . .
