We are pleased to invite you to join us in Malaga, Spain between October 12-18th 2014 for a unique workshop open to both photographers and journalists, which combines the expertise and skills of two award-winning media professionals. Photographer Matilde Gattoni and journalist Matteo Fagotto will work in tandem, leading you through a seven-day-course like no other, where you will learn how to gain an edge over competitors by combining photography and journalism in an ever-changing and challenging media market. Since 2011, Matilde Gattoni and Matteo Fagotto have built a healthy professional partnership that has allowed them to produce high-quality reportages which have been published in more than one hundred magazines and newspapers around the world, including TIME, Newsweek, The Guardian, GQ, Wired, Marie Claire, NEON and Die Zeit. Matilde Gattoni and Matteo Fagotto have perfected their teamwork covering topics such as refugee crisis in Somalia, illegal mining in Indonesia, land grabbing in Cambodia and economic boom in post-war Iraq, producing stories suitable for general newspapers, weekend supplements, women and men magazines. Participants will work under the constant supervision of the two tutors, on a tight schedule which will include theoretical and practical lessons, shooting sessions, stories analysis, article writing and concept presentations, both in group and individual sessions. They will be required to present a collection of their previous works (either photographs or articles) as well as ideas for a story they will work on during the week. The assignment story will be take place in the city of Malaga, Spain. Rather than on technical aspects alone, the workshop will focus on how to discover, analyse, produce and present a story. Participants will learn how to consider text and pictures as a whole, comprehensive product and how an healthy and balanced collaboration between journalists and photographers can result in an improvement of their final product and result in better chances of publication. The workshop is open to both teams of photographers and journalists and single individuals. The tutors speak English, Italian and French and can provide advices and assistance in any of the three languages. Students will be accommodated and catered for in beautiful rural setting just 40kms from Malaga city giving the opportunity to edit and write in the relaxing surroundings of the tranquil Andalusian countryside. The workshop is limited to 10 participants and costs €1300 per person which includes all tuition, accommodation and meals and beverages (except lunches when you are in the city on assignment) as well as transportation to and from the local train station.
