We are running out of time, Missy could be euthanized at any time - TopicsExpress

We are running out of time, Missy could be euthanized at any time now. This is her story: Missy’s mother was killed for meat in Monrovia, Liberia towards the end of last year, leaving her an orphan who was too young to fend for herself. Gail, passionate about animals, was put in her pathway to rescue her, which she did and took her back to the compound where her and her boyfriend, Mark, were living while he worked on contract. Gail looked after Missy, nursing her to health and nurturing her to become a healthy young chimp. Gail had started proceedings immediately to bring her out to South Africa to a place called Chimp Eden, where she could be united with other chimps and live a ‘normal life’ of a rescued chimp. There is a lot of paper work, permits and red tape to get through. They tried to rehome Missy on a farm, in Monrovia, where she would have the freedom of open spaces and the company of other rescued animals. But she did not adapt, she was too young and as a result suffered from malnourishment and depression, until one day, when Gail went to visit, she could take it no more and took her away from there back to the compound, where she thrived and continued to grow. Gail has remained realistic, and no matter how close they have gotten, she is honest in the fact that she is a chimp, and should be with her kind – for her own good and welfare. However, things have spun out of control now. With the outbreak of the Ebola virus in west Africa, total hysteria has reached Liberia – a war torn country, where survival of the human race is often a challenge and she is dealing with savages and people of a very different mind set. Missy has been kicked out of the compound due to fear of her carrying the virus, however, we have it on good authority from a vet in South Africa that the virus is just as contagious in apes as in humans – all being mammals, the virus will travel the same. She has not been exposed in any way to the virus and the only way that anyone could contract the disease from Missy (if she did have it) would be to eat her. But time is not on our side, the authorities will not allow any animal to cross the border – whether they have been given the all clear of the ebola virus or not . Gail is in hiding now, and they want to kill Missy, as Liberia has declared a state of emergency and everyone is on red alert. There is one place who is willing to take Missy in for now, however, this is a medical research facility where they experiment on animals in the name of science (hipatitus experiments) and Gail would rather euthanise her before letting her suffer. Missy looks at Gail with such trust and love, how can she leave her or put her in a cage – its not an option. She will stress, not eat, get sick and die. Not a way for a baby chimp to go. Surely there must be something we can do? Maybe find a way through Uganda or Kenya? First prize would be to get her directly through to South Africa, but our hopes are fading, we are running out of time and Gail and Mark need to get out of Liberia soon too. Please can you pull out all your resources and put word out – surely someone, somewhere can pull a few strings and get them out alive. Thank you for taking time to read this and please join us in our plight to save Missy. Yes, its only one little chimp, but its also the closest thing that Gail has ever had to a child, and it is breaking her heart. She is desperate to save this little chimp. And through lots of prayer and faith, I am sure we can help save Missys life You can contact Gail on +0231888098098 or me on +27828996992 or reply to this email. Thank you for taking time to read this and please join us in our plight to save Missy.
