We are sad to share with you the news that Virginia Pretti, a pillar of St. Marys, passed away Friday. Miss Pretti, former Head of the Lower School, is among those figures who are larger than life in the history of our school. Virginia came to St. Mary’s in 1979 already having distinguished herself as an educator at St. Agnes Academy. She first served as Dean of the Upper School until 1984 when she crossed the street to become the Head of the Lower School. In 1994 the title and duties of Associate Head of School were added to her care. She took on each new responsibility with the devotion and tenacity that distinguished her entire career. In 2007, Miss Pretti received the Hazelhurst Gold Cross and, in 2008, the Moss Hall porch was dedicated in her honor as part of her retirement celebrations.
