We are thrilled to hear the varying discussions circulating about Imagine Durant (ID)! As with any new organization, especially one dedicated to bringing positive and community-driven change in our community, it is expected there will be misplaced assumptions about the intentions of ID. Recently it was brought to our attention that a Facebook Page with many concerned citizens from the area, dedicated an entire post to ID, but unfortunately mischaracterized much information about the project. To whomever originated the post: we share your concern for the well-being of the community of Durant as we continue to grow, from the most mundane of issues to the most extraordinary. As such, ID is an opportunity for you, and anyone interested, to engage in shaping the direction of this beautiful community. ID is an organization in its infant stage and community members will have the opportunity to participate in the ID process as we will soon have operational structures and move forward through an expert and very intentional visioning process (ETA 8 weeks). When dates are available for those discussions and all related efforts, ID Facebook Page members will be the first to know. ID is not formally affiliated with the City of Durant, the Durant Industrial Authority or any particular existing organization in our community, either public or private; although, ID seeks to partner with anyone interested in improving the future of Durant, including those reading this post. ID will be a not-for-profit that will establish a long-term vision for the community, integrating the many existing visions which exist and make up the DNA of Durant as it is, certainly it is our hope that you will be part of this effort. We anticipate some of the opportunities will be ready in this calendar year. For any concerned with funding sources, there will opportunities for you to be involved in that aspect as well. This process is unprecedented for a community of our size. If you would like to hear a formal presentation about the intentions of ID we can schedule that immediately. Many community members have already taken part in discussions which has been delivered at various events in recent months; we welcome the opportunity to share about ID whenever an opportunity presents itself. Until formal events occur and the operational structures are in place, we invite everyone to immediately take part in our communitys values mapping through completion of an online survey.
