We are told that to lose weight you must eat less & exercise more, that it’s simply a case of calories in vs calories burned. If it really were that simple, (though granted exercise continues to be alien to many), then why are the statistics for obesity so grim? Perhaps we should also consider the power of the mind? Negative thought patterns and stress will hinder weight loss efforts, not least because they can result in overeating, but also due to actual physiological effects. People conserve more fat under stress especially around the middle, due to the release of the hormone cortisol. Because your body & mind are so closely linked, a weight loss programme that only focuses on your physical body will be lacking. Yes, a healthy diet and exercise are key (though quality over quantity for both are equally important), but so too is a more positive attitude & adequate relaxation :-)
