We are umber One! “We are Number One!” In sports, any place other than first place is no place. The goal of coaches, players and fans all season long is to be Number One. Most businesses cover the honor of being #1. There’s not much consolation in being #2; “We try harder” is about all that can be said. The Number One song or show of the year brings not only awards but also fame and fortune. Much more could be said about the interest and importance of being number One. Perhaps the term Number one is of American origin. The Bible doesn’t mention it. But it does speak other of the first - first fruits, firstborn, firstlings. In every case, that which came first and that which was best (#1), belongs to the Lord (Mal. 1- 3). This Principle is set forth in the Old Covenant. It is also applicable to those of us who are living under the new Testament of Christ. He is to be Number One in our hearts (1 Pet 3:15) and in our lives (Mat 10:37). His kingdom and his righteousness must be the Number One priority of our lives (Matt 6:33). Is Jesus Christ Number One with you? Would you “rather have Jesus than silver or gold?” Is Christ and his church in the center or on the fringe of you life? Actions speak louder than words.
