We at ANTS (Association of Non-Traditional Students) were sitting - TopicsExpress

We at ANTS (Association of Non-Traditional Students) were sitting around jacking our jaws about homecoming week, and what we needed to do in order to keep our funding. During this time I thought homecoming… at my age? Wouldn’t it be funny if I threw my hat into the ring? Well, after some more discussion, and several more root beers, we were all just a little tipsy, and I decided to do it. I went out a got a hat, took it to the place where the applications are hidden, and threw it in. The following Tuesday, after I sobered up, I went into the ANTS office and remembered what I had done the previous Thursday in my root beer induced state. I was not a pretty sight. I had a high fructose corn syrup hang over and Kathy, the secretary of the group came in to let me know what I had to do. She proceeded to put me in charge of all the homecoming committees. Me being enthusiastic mood, dropped my jaw, let my eyes cloud over, and in my best impersonation of Bubba, said “Whhuutttt?” “Yes,” she said, brimming over in a bubbly enthusiasm that reminded me of Pollyanna on steroids. “We need to make flyers, and write stuff in chalk, and make decorations… “Whhuutt,” I said all the while chewing my cud, and wondering if I still had some coffee somewhere in my cup. While she was talking, I drifted back 30 some years ago when I first came to UNM on the back of a brontosaurus. I had heard the stories of parties and carnivals at other universities, but never noticed them here. I figured that they were just fairy stories of other universities. I realized that since the invention of the car, I can now spend more time on campus, and see these magical things that sound like fun. I have decided to participate in this homecoming event with the full fervor of a dog chasing a hot dog. It will make for funny stories, which is the point of being alive. Alright, it’s my point of being alive.
