We at Soul believe in being the voice of the voiceless, taking our power to the polls, asking the questions that need answers, and bridging the information and collaboration gap between our community and our elected officials. Tonight we engaged in very productive, informative, and in depth conversation with two candidates running for the New Hanover County Commissioners and Board of Education. We discussed with them a variety of topics ranging from the positive and negative impacts of revitalization efforts, suspension rates for African American’s that feed the school to prison pipeline, education improvements in urban area schools, race relations in community leadership, the necessity of empowering teachers with necessary resources to ensure better outcomes, providing free busing for students to after school programs to reduce stress on community programing budgets, job creation/ entry level opportunities, and many other topics that affect us. These men didn’t have to answer all of these questions but they stood there enthusiastically for 2+ hours and engaged in respectful dialogue and at the end of the conversation we were able to identify the correlation in our values and discuss our differences in opinion with transparency and integrity. They had some very interesting points and out of all the candidates that we have research thus far for those positions they impressed us the most. These conversations will continue to ensure the accountability of their promises and positions, but as of now they have SOUL’s attention. We encourage you all to do your homework on Rob Zapple and Tom Gale They have even agreed to come to you wherever and answer any questions you may have. A colleague of our brother is an associate of ours….#Veryimpressed…#Soullife# The movement is mobile..
