We at WTO often receive interesting stories from users about their lives as women in their countries and about the problems they face day in, day out. We recently received a story from a young women in Nepal. She described a problem she is facing in her village. It is about a women she knows very well. She is married and already has five children. As the family is poor this large family is stretched to the limit. Now the parents have been forced to sell their first-born child, a boy, to someone in the next village. The women of the village have tried to help the mother by giving her advice about birth control. Her husband is however unwilling to listen and scolds the women who are trying to help his wife avoid another pregnancy. Now she is expected her sixth child. As the family is illiterate it is clear that it needs help from outside, our WTO fan writes. We found out that the NGO savethechildren is active in Nepal and may be able to help in this and similar cases. savethechildren.org/site/c.8rKLIXMGIpI4E/b.6150545/k.B8DE/Nepal.htm#health We also found a very interesting article about the situation for women in Nepal and would like to share it with you all. We would also like to thank our user in Nepal for sending us this story so that we could publicize it. It certainly shows the kind of situation prevalent in many areas where women are denied the right to birth control and thus denied the opportunity to shape their futures. theguardian/global-development/2012/jul/07/zoe-williams-nepal-contraception-pregnancy
