﷽ We become upset and feel despair when were stricken with a calamity. Failing to realize the purpose of why it may be happening to us. Thoughts begin piling on top of each other, to the point it completely blinds us from seeing the true blessing in our hardships. A sense of helplessness begins to form and we become on the verge of losing all hope. We turn to others for advice wanting to hear what sounds appealing to us. But suddenly, everything feels like its going downhill. Were in a hole and cant seem to find a way to get out of it until something wakes us up from deep within. Like an alarm clock, waking you up from a terrible dream. Thats when we begin to question ourselves of the possibilities of why it may be happening and what lead us to be in our current situation. With time the answer is slowly revealed to us. With that time we begin to experience a change of heart—a change of heart that becomes the main ingredient to our solution. That change of heart is what brings us back to what we were missing all along—its what makes us see a clear big picture rather than an enlarged blurry portion. That change of heart is our return to Allah ﷻ. It all seems to fit like pieces of a puzzle. The purpose for our calamities is because of Allah ﷻ—He wants us to turn to Him, to draw us closer to Him. Isnt it weird how were able to quickly find benefit from other peoples calamities, but fail to see the benefit in ours? When we see others suffer, we suddenly remember how blessed we are and become thankful that were not in their situation. So Allah ﷻ makes us go through hardships to teach us to be thankful always—not just when we see others suffer. He wants us to go through it, to realize the true meaning of being blessed—the true meaning of appreciation. Why does He do it?—because He loves us, He wants whats best for us and in return we should love Him and trust that He will only do whats best. Narrated Abu Huraira RA: If Allah wants to do good to somebody, He afflicts him with trials. [Bukhari] Our hardships also act as a cleansing for our souls. With them, He allows us the opportunity to become faithful/righteous servants. Narrated by Aisha RA: No calamity befalls a Muslim but that Allah expiates some of his sins because of it, even though it were the prick he receives from a thorn. [Bukhari] Wouldnt you rather have your sins be removed by a temporary calamity in this Dunya, rather than the eternal fire of Jahannam? So why should we become sad and feel in despair when we are stricken with a calamity? Our ease comes with our hardships and Allah ﷻ assures us in Surat Ash-Sharh, verses 5 and 6: Indeed, with hardship comes ease. With hardship comes ease. Allah ﷻ never gives us more than what we can handle and He gives us patience when we ask for it. He holds the solution to all of our problems but leaves it up to us to make the decision to approach Him for them. He makes it so easy for us to approach Him and never turns down anyone who turns to Him. We must always remember that He is our key to happiness. Allah ﷻ works in the most amazing ways. We think we know ourselves well but He knows us much better.❤
