We can protect our spouse, our marriage and our family by only giving our agreement to Gods assessment of them through Christ. If there is an area of concern, we are to take it up with the Father in the privacy of our own prayer life, and then agree only with His ideas about the matter. The moment one moves into a critical spirit when it comes to their spouse, is the moment they have allowed the enemy to breach the protective covenant put in place by God. In cases of overt sinfulness, where ones spouse is obviously disobeying Gods Word and engaging in wicked behavior, the approach is only slightly different. We are to lovingly confront our spouse by letting them know that their choice to sin is dangerous, and that it is of vital importance that they repent. Offer to lay hands on them and pray for them. Let them know that you are there for them to talk things through, if needed, but that you will not ignore their sin or pretend everything is O.K. Do not allow them to settle back into life as usual but neither harangue them, nag at them or pester them. Just stand firmly and PRAYERFULLY in the truth that family life, marriage life and ALL of the life you share together is in jeopardy so long as they choose to remain in their sins. This will require courage, selflessness, boldness, true love, and wisdom -- all things which have been provided for us in abundance by God. Too many give up too soon, buckle under the pressure of emotional discomfort, or choose to compromise the truth for the sake of keeping the peace. Be strong and courageous. Love your spouse and your family enough to take a stand in the truth and do not be moved. Some have saved their marriages by doing this and have launched their families into realms of glory reserved only for those who have truly received His love~
