We choked on street tap water (well, Im gonna have to try the real thing) I took your laugh by the collar and it knew not to swing. Anytime I tried an honest job, well, the till had a hole and (ha-ha!) We laughed about payin rent - cause the county jails, theyre free. And you know, you know, you know... it was all wrong. Deep water, deep water...senseless denial I went down like a rag doll rat of a child. During a boat trip with family and friends while on a visit to his native Australia in 2007, actor Heath Ledger outlined a music video idea for King Rat to Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock and other band members. The band, who had befriended Ledger through their tour manager, were touring Australia at the time. The animated video was fully conceived down to the last detail but unfinished when Ledger died in January 2008...so, it was completed by members of a Los Angeles art collective/production company called The Masses. Ledger (who was opposing the illegal commercial whale hunts taking place off the coast of Australia each year) intended the video - which depicts whales poaching humans to make pet food - to raise awareness on modern whaling practices. Furthermore, proceeds from iTunes purchases of the song were donated to the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, who actively intervene with whale fishing. King Rat is taken from the 2007 Modest Mouse album No Ones First and Youre Next. ARTIST: Modest Mouse SONG: King Rat YEAR: 2009 RUNTIME: 6:03 https://youtube/watch?v=Qi7KDOAj4Xo
