We coming down to the final days of the election race. As I have talked to people, placed ads and signs, I have been very clear that I am not running against anyone, I am running for a seat on the board of education. I am pleased with what we have achieved over the past 8 years. We have come a long way. We have a long way to go. The board, as it is now, has a great blend of experience and perspectives. Dave and Sheri are the veterans on the board, although this is Ron Carcellis second stint serving on the board of education. Dennis Spisak has the administrative background, and an expertise in all things legislative. He was also a valuable resource in deciding how to proceed with the school radio station. That leaves me. I believe my 31 years of classroom experience give me a unique perspective. I taught under seven superintendents and dozens of administrators. I have worked with boards over the years, some of which were engaged and effective. I have also worked with those who were basically there to rubber stamp whatever the superintendent recommended. When I started this journey 8 years ago, I vowed that I would not be one of those. The board should set the tone, mission, and vision for the district. To do that, each member must be engaged with the schools, administrators, teachers, students, and all they do. We need to provide the atmosphere for effective teaching, and productive learning. In addition to my teaching experience, I have authored educational materials that have been used by schools nationwide, and some internationally. I have been a clinician on the state level, and served on the Ohio Department of Educations Committee for Assessment in the Arts. I ask that you allow me to continue this journey. As a classroom teacher, I was able to interact with students, educate, and affect the lives of those who came to my class. But I cannot tell you the satisfaction that comes with knowing that when I see children getting off the bus, walking down the street, competing on a field, a track, course, court, or alley, gathered in assembly, or sitting in a classroom, that actions I have taken, decisions I have helped to shape have affected every one of them.
