We discuss the recent decision by the Supreme Court of the United States to declare unconstitutional a section in one of our major national equality laws. We discuss the implications of this ruling, and speculate on the motives of those who are pushing for strict voting laws. Why now? But first, we delve into the historical context from which the Voting Rights Act sprung. The Radical Reconstruction, The Enforcement Acts, The 14th & 15th Amendments; We talk about it all! In the end, we decide that there is something suspicious about all of these changes to voting law in recent years. The panel believes preclearence is necessary, but now that section 4(b) is unconstitutional, we agree we must look forward to something that can replace it for 2013. Equality!
