(FOX13) - Its a story that still has the Whitehaven community and all of Shelby County reeling. Charles Thomas shot and killed his wife Tasha Thomas Tuesday morning after approaching her in the parking lot of University of Little Scholars Daycare where she worked, according to the Memphis Police Department. He then went to his home and killed himself. They leave behind three children ages 5, 9 and 11. “Our community is shaken by this terrible tragedy. This is domestic violence at its worst,” said MPD Director Toney Armstrong. Its an incident that brought back painful memories for Joyce Kyle. “Ultimately if a person really is trying to reach out to you and their ultimate goal is to kill you, they will do and say whatever they have to, violate any order that they have, break out of jail if they have to, call and contact someone else if they have to to make that happen,” said Kyle. Kyle, also a mother of three, was involved in two marriages where domestic abuse was present. “Started throwing furniture around, broke a lot of things in the home, and then pulled out a pistol and aimed it at me and told me to clean it up,” Kyle recalled. She said she left once and went to live with a relative. Guilt, embarrassment, the unknown – it all drove her back. “I was afraid,” she recalled, “I was afraid of the problems that I may bring to my family as a result of what was going on in my home.” She says telling a domestic violence victim “just leave” is just scary. “Tell them you can stay with me or you can stay at this shelter or you can go here for this resource. We have to be able to give somebody something to hold onto,” said Kyle. Tuesdays act of domestic violence leaves behind three other victims: the three children. The family has set up the Tasha Freeman Thomas Memorial Fund for the children; donations at any First Tennessee Bank. Alexia Williams, owner of the University of Little Scholars Daycare, told FOX 13 they are deeply saddened by the events taking place at the facility. She thanked everyone for their prayers and calls of concern.
