We dont know how to share in this country. Well, its a worldwide human challenge, but we in the richest, most powerful (who cant we invade? and from afar with minimal self-damage?) nation in the world, cultivate greed and competition and violence in word and deed. Look out for number one! If you dont look out for yourself, who will? Family first, meaning my spouse when s/he pleases me and the rest of my clan when I remember them. Were not bad. Were just a very ignorant mess of people. But were in luck! because if we can work through something like this, where the shareholders and franchise owners and the workers can make enough to live (and $15 is entry level living with one or two other members of your household earning as well, for soaring rents and car and medical costs, school uniforms, minimal electronic gadgets so your kids can learn and dont hang out in the streets, etc.), if we can work through something like this it will be an object lesson in sharing. This is economic behavioral therapy. We’re not going to change our inherent philosophy, not overnight; religion doesn’t seem to be working; so let’s just act as if we’re kind and friendly and it will suffuse our collective consciousness and work like an fiscal elixir. Okay? Calm down. They’re not stealing your job; they’re trying to take care of their families. When they is us. Count to ten; no, make that fifteen. This is not going to break the bank: wilier thinkers than me did that centuries ago. This is a return to the tradition of restorative justice. Not minimum wage as in “How little can I pay you and get away with it”, i.e., “How much do I get to keep back from mostly your labor?” but, “How much is left over after costs to be divided fairly among the wage earners?” The CEO who is making 500 or whatever times more than the least paid employee in their company, isn’t working 500 times as much. In conclusion, I thank the brave souls who are putting their lives on the line to save the soul of this nation.
