We don’t know anyone who seriously believed a hippopotamus was living in the Chicago River but it was an interesting video that showed up on YouTube on September 15. The video claimed to show an animal – many described it as a hippo – popping its head out of the Chicago River just east of the State Street Bridge. Whatever it was, it was so big that a boat swerved to avoid it. Well, you can all just calmly switch the safety back on your hippo rifles because – and we are shocked, SHOCKED to find this out – it was a hoax. A new video uploaded to YouTube on Wednesday continues from the end of the first video and pans to a man in a blue shirt and dark tie on the south bank of the river who wants us to open our eyes “to a better home buying experience.” “That’s not real,” says the pitchman for a new company called MortgageHippo, “It’s a stunt.
