We flew from Katmandu to Bangkok on Thai Airlines, economy. It was a three hour flight. They gave us a pillow and blanket, and the usual, soft drinks and peanuts. They then served us a meal which included lamb, an excellent sauce, a bean salad and dessert. They offered wine separately and as part of the meal. They then came around with coffee and more soft drinks. They also gave us a hot towel, which is only offered to first class customers in the US. Mmmmmmm.... Hot towel. Homer like. We have found this kind of service in other places too - American airline companies have gotten us to lower our expectations to nothing but a seat. Soon theyll have us standing up on shorter flights, perhaps stacking us like cargo after that. This is what competition normally does in monopoly capitalism - drives prices up, service down.
