We get lots of winter visitors. Some arrive in cars and others arrive under their own power. I spent part of the afternoon hanging out with a couple thousand gulls, terns, willets, ruddy turnstones and sanderlings at the very far northeastern tip of the island. Its pretty deserted there and they like it just fine that way. They appear to take turns taking flight and going out to fish, usually returning with a small fish in their beak. The second photo is a black capped night heron. A handful of these birds come to the same broken down building on the river every year. No place else. Just that one building on the river. They stay for December and January and then are off again.
