We got into some wicked screamers today on Crowley. It looked like a scene from Wicked Tuna when Doug R had to pull his picks & chase down a beautiful rainbow butterball for Brad Rice. I netted three fish over 5 lbs for the Smith family (Mark & sons Lucas and Tomas)-the largest being a 23 inch 7 lb. rainbow. The chironomid hatch was immense today & if you had a gillie and a crystal zebra tied beneath an Under-cator, you got fish baby! It is all coming together on Crowley right now. The mud bottom is right at the weed edge in 9-11 feet. Water temps at that depth are near perfect for the trout. Thus, we have concentrations of fish in relatively small areas which is conducive to big days while still water nymphing. Mammoth Lakes basin got a jag of trophy rainbows planted. Get in those tubes and troll some Loebergs, Spruce-a-bus, or Agent Orange streamers with a full or heavy sinking tip line. Weather looks to be fantastic the remainder of the week. :) be the fly...tom website fish report & trip requests at: sierradrifters
