We had a fantastic visit with Linda Bremner. We were sad to see her go. It is fun to rediscover things through a visitors eyes. After 4 short months I think we take what we have here in Ajijic for granted. It takes a visitor to remind us how beautiful it is here. We have a week off until Irene Scott and Carlisle Scott come for a visit. We are looking forward to it. We took the plunge and purchased a pool cover. What a difference it makes. The pool is pretty much a constant temperature now. Elio the pool guy (I call him Antonio) made all the arrangements. This pool guy has a great set of chicklets in his mouth. When he smiles the sun twinkles off of them. A real lady killer. I made an interesting discovery while talking with the maid yesterday. She does not speak any English but if I talk real loudly and wave my arms we seem to understand each other. I asked her is she had any kids. She replied that she does. I asked how old? She told me. She asked the same questions of me. Now here comes the discovery. She rattled something off In Fluent Spanish of which I did not understand. I told her I did not understand. No comprendé. So she says, wait for it, they are in high school. She replied in English. Lol. I guess we have to be careful assuming she cannot understand us. Too funny. Work for Wendy and I has been going along quite well. Wendy is loving the challenge of her job. It is stirring her grey matter. Thomas Hellyer is her boss. A hell of a nice guy. Completely bilingual and pretty sharp too. I am not to sure he is ready for the type A, obsessive compulsive organizational skills that Wendy possesss. Not to worry, Wendy will get it all sorted out. Lol. My only frustration has been trying to get a decent internet connection. I currently have 3 companies trying to help. I know, I know. First world problems. But honest, I need it for my job. Lol. For all of you wondering what we cannot get (so far) in Mexico we have started a list. Molasses Keurig K cups. I know, first world problems, although molasses does surprise me. How do you baked beans without molasses? Other then not having the brands we are used too they have pretty much everything here. In many cases I am finding the products here to be better then north of the border. Perhaps it is the creature comforts and brand recognition that some people mutter under their breath about. After all, Mexico owns Canadas largest bread company. (Bimbo). Speaking of breads, amazing bread and rolls here. Go early in the morning for delicious crusty buns. They are still hot when you get them. Every little aborette (a small corner store on every block) has them. Delicious. You all know in Canada I used to make my own tortillas as the Canadian ones seemed to all be made from harina (flour) and the mais (corn) are much better. I have not made any since we got here. $35.00 pesos for a kilogram of fresh, made that morning, tortillas. I am rambling again lol. Hope you all have a great weekend.
