We had a great weekend on the Columbia River, stayed at Crescent Bar, went up to Dry Falls and Grand Coulee Dam. I hadnt been up there since I was a kid. The mesas, valleys, gorges, etc. in that area are as amazing as any scenery anywhere in the world, I think. We didnt get to do the tour or see the cheezy laser show - curses!! - but the old dam itself was pretty impressive, even given the natural competition all around it. The Crescent Bar resort area is kind of spring break hell, with Kenny Chesneys fascinating anti-music piped in everywhere, but it was sort of interesting to observe. I noticed that a lot of the frat boy/hot babe/boats & golf carts party types seem pretty grim, rarely smiling or laughing or even talking to each other - what fun! Most of the people there, of course, were just bozos like us, happy to lie by the pool in the warm air. The Columbias water level looked really low in some places (Vantage, Crescent Bar). You couldnt even get close to it. I dont know if its because of flow control, or its a seasonal thing, or what. I took lots of photos, but I dont think my camera was quite up to capturing the sweeping majesty of the terrain!
