We had a new football coach that came to town. He and i clashed like oil and water. I would hold back players that were hurt and he did not like it. He believed that if they were walking they should man up and play, not excuses. The second summer his star quarterback got a shoulder hurt. It was on the farm somehow. I was treating it with physical therapy and it was going to be alright eventually but could be reenjured easily. He told me one day he did not want to play that year because of it. I agreed and refused to sign him off on it. I told his dad and he said he was relieved. The next day I got this blistering call from the coach wanting to know what I thought I was doing. He is our star player, I have got to have him. He said you have no right to do this, I will get another doctor. I said I have a state license just as you do for teaching and I am liable for my decisions. The pier pressure was so heavy he conveninced and overroad his parents and took him to a college team doctor, who put some little brace on it and certified him to play. Praise God he did not get hurt further.
