We had the most awsome adventure yesterday. On the advice of - TopicsExpress

We had the most awsome adventure yesterday. On the advice of members here, we took a Whale Watch cruise with the Cat Balou team and what an experience it turned out to be. We left the harbour around 8.00am and 300mtrs to the end of the breakwater were two fur seals catching the early sun. A couple of K out and Roz, on the PA, told us there was a mother and calf about another 2 K further, that had been sighted earlier. We motored only 5 mins when the Rusho (code for whale spout) signal was given. We were in front of them so engines were stopped and next thing, the two whales surfaced about 60mtrs away. They went down so our skipper headed in their direction, stopped and waited (the whales stay under for quite a few minutes) and Lo, they surfaced almost beside the boat. What an aw inspiring experience to see them so close. We had further sightings for the next 15 mins but it was time to push on. We turned and headed north for a while when we came across a fur seal, tearing up his morning fish for breakfast, out about 5k in the ocean. We stopped to watch him and Penguins surfaced nearby, hoping to get some scraps. Back on the run again, we came across an Albatross with two other large birds, also looking for breakfast. There were literally hundreds of birds out at sea, many kilometres out, circling and diving, one type, the Shearwater, migrate from Russia each year. All the while, Roz kept us up to date with all things nautical, along with local history, while the first mate Judy, looked after us with tea, coffee, biscuits and soup. We travelled further north looking at the beaches and rock formations when Roz told us there were 3 more whales ahead. We were 3 hours into a 3.5hour cruise by now so we followed them back south for a while, now into overtime. We then had to leave the whales and head back to port, but even though we were way overtime by now, still diverted into a beautiful bay called Calle Calle, only to have half a dozen Dolphins start playing around the front of the boat. Roz told us that they usually see them out in the ocean. Because they had not seen any, diverted into the bay for us. All to soon, we were underway again, around they breakwater, where one of the seals was still sun baking, and back to the jetty. Our 3.5hour cruise was well over 4 by now, but apart from one sea sick lady, everyone else was so appreciative of Roz and Gordon, her hubby and the skipper, along with Judy, for their incredible hospitality and a wonderful adventure.
