We had this message from one of the campaigners that helped to save the centres last time they were threatened with closure - read on for some great ideas.......Thank you X Hi there I was really involved in the initial campaign to save the sure starts when the first four were threatened with closure, myself and another mum ran the campaign. Im not able to help as much this time round as Im back at work and my then 6month year old is now 4 but basically we attended every education select committee and council meeting and made sure we asked a question at every one - you have to check the council website about how to put a question forward at a committee meeting, you cant just put your hand up on the night. I can send you all the stuff we write if that helps? We also ran a strong media campaign - they like stuff that catches attention so we marched with posters of Michael Gove dressed as Bob the builder chanting can you fix it and then we had a Beatles style bed in at church and Mossley hill childrens centre. Granada reports, news northwest as well as the echo all came down. We also got everyone to go to see their local councillors at their surgeries - ours had 40 separate parents one morning so they could not ignore it. If you look at the save church and Mossley hill childrens centre page it is still live with all the links to stuff that was done. The main problem though is that the local MPs are not listened to whatsoever in central government as they are all labour. If you have any contacts that can get in front of the relevant MPs for education or children and families that will help. Hope this helps, it would be a real shame if the centres go x
