We have 7 grandchildren. Five boys and 2 girls. They range in age from 4 to 20 years old. All 7 are very special to Peggy and I. It doesnt take much to excite us anymore. Like last evening when the two girls, Chasity and Bethany, came pulling up just to visit with us for a while. Or yesterday, in the early afternoon when we arrived back home from a quick pickin trip to Alabama to find that Zachary, our college boy, had come by between classes and was there waiting on us. We both just smiled and our hearts swelled up as we realizing how lucky we are to see our Grands so often. As I was thinking of times shared with the Grands this morning, about camping trips and vacations, about times in the workshop and art festivals. About Thanksgiving dinners and Christmas eves in past years, my mind went to a song I heard Kenny Rogers sing a few years back. I thought of Hunter, the four year old and a baseball tournament he had played in recently. It went like this: The greatest little boy, in a baseball hat, stands in the field, with his ball and bat. Says I am the greatest player of them all! He puts his bat on his shoulder, and he tosses up his ball. And the ball goes up, and the ball comes down, and he swings his bat all the way around. The worlds so still you can hear the sound, as the baseball falls, to the ground. Now the little boy doesnt say a word... Picks up his ball. He is undeterred. Says, I am the greatest there has ever been! And he grits his teeth. And he tries it again. And the ball goes up, and the ball comes down, and he swings his bat all the way around. And the worlds so still you can hear the sound, as the baseball falls, to the ground. He makes no excuses; he shows no fear He just closes his eyes, and listens to the cheers. Now the little boy, he adjusts his hat. Picks up his ball. Stares at his bat. Says I am the greatest, and the game is on the line! So he gives his all, one last time. And the ball goes up, like the moon so bright, swings his bat, with all his might. And the worlds as still as still can be, and the baseball falls; and thats strike 3. Now its supper time, and his momma calls. Little boy starts home, with his bat and ball. Says, I am the greatest, that is a fact... but even I didnt know, I could pitch like that! After the game, Hunter came running up to Peggy with the biggest smile on his face and said......Granny, Did we win? Peggy told Hunter no, they didnt win but they almost did. As I thought of this I told myself..... No Hunters team didnt win.....but we sure did........ The winners are Granny and PaPa... Weve won seven times. Wow, God has really blessed us. Just something to think about on this Thursday morning....................
