We have a catastrophic crisis on our hands. The implications of what is unfolding right now inside Sierra Leone is still not fully grasped yet - both from within and without the government. Meanwhile, two more ministry of health personnel have died today of Ebola. Male Nurse Murray Morie Belewa was the nurse-in-charge of Sandaru health station of Penguia Chiefdom, Kailahun district. Prior to entering his nursing career which took him to Penguia, he was the popular Youth Leader of Njaluahun Chiefdom (Segbwema). Also to die from Ebola today is another ministry official at the same Sandaru Penguia health post. Water & Sanitation Officer Mohamed Jeigula assigned to that station, sometimes acted as second-in-command there. He passed away from Ebola this afternoon at the Kenema Government Hospitals Ebola Center. These two Ebola deaths are of concern for two reasons. Firstly, it is the first time Ebola has been confirmed in that area (Penguia Chiefdom). Secondly, they both only reported positive for Ebola just few days before they have died today; meaning they had been incubating the virus. This means whilst they had been incubating the virus, they were in contact with residents who would have been reporting to their health station with various ailments. The question also is from WHOM did they get Ebola and to WHOM have they passed it on? Was it from someone within Penguia? If so, we might need to brace ourselves. Keep in mind that the official government figure of 103 Ebola-POSITIVE cases as of this morning, does not include those who died in communities before their blood could be tested in laboratories. So the real infection figure is much higher than 103 cases. I repeat, both inside and outside of government, many do not yet fully grasp what is unfolding.
