We have all seen news of kids falling in open borewells and then the mammoth operations undertaken to save them. In some cases the victims are lucky enough to survive, while at other times theres always bad news. On 3rd August, a 6-year old boy fell into one such open borewell in Bagalkot. This is when the state government of Karnataka launched a drive to seal all such open defunct borewells. And in the last 6 days they have sealed 12,385 such borewells. While, one may always question why was the govt. sleeping till now and why wait for incidents to happen than act proactively, this is applaudable work on the Karnataka govts part. Kudos.
