We have an elderly homeless man named Peter that goes through Starbucks recycling out back of our store. He suffers from some sort of spinal issue that keeps him hunched over. His footwear is a couple of differently coloured Crocs, and he never seems to be wearing socks, no matter the temperature. Most times when I find him out back, I offer him samples of bars or protein powders given to us by our vendors, he used to refuse, but he accepts now. Today I found him out back, so I sat down and talked with him for about 10 minutes. Ive taken note over the past couple of years at how articulate Peter is, and it makes me wonder how he ended up where he is. Peter isnt down on himself at all, and considers himself a salvage professional. He was tired when I was speaking with him today, because he prefers to hunt at night, probably because it keeps him invisible to judging eyes. He told me hes got a couple lifetimes worth of books, and along with other stuff hes collected, hes looking for a storage facility that runs about $100/mnth. Most interesting to me is that hes got a philosophy degree, which explains his articulation. You just never know what someones story is, unless you ask.
