We have come to the season of the year that poignantly reminds us - TopicsExpress

We have come to the season of the year that poignantly reminds us that Christmas has nothiong to do with pompous, fancy, glittering, expensive decors/things nor lavish food! The manner and place of Jesus birth, as well as his life and death, say it all: a borrowed manger for a crib, an animal stall for a room, a peasant couple for parents, a refugee status in Bethlehem and, subsequently, in Egypt. He had nowhere to permanently and comfortably lay down his head during his public ministry. He died a criminals death and was burried in a borrowed tomb, etc. Given the way we are celebrating Christmas in our time and age, not to mention the thousands we spend decdorating our homes, offices or schools, have we not made a mockery of the birth of him who is the reason for the season? May this Christmas be a time of remembering that Christmas has nothing to do with lavish and expensive gifts or celebrations. Rather it is encountering the Christ in the simple, insignificant, humble, deprived and vulnerable people of our society as we minister with them in whatever way we can for wholeness of life.
