We have had a lot of new friends join us this week so I want to take a minute to remind you all what we are doing (if you just want to cut through my intro and just want to help right away, click on the links in the comments below and you can sign up to bring a family a meal, a description of who they are and why we are helping is on each link, very self explanatory, thank you for your support) OK, on with my introduction: My name is Teresa Buelna and I started Soups On in October 2011 in the hopes to create a group of volunteers that people knew they could count on to bridge the meal gap in times of a family crisis. When your life is a little upside-down the first thing to get disrupted is meals yet studies show breaking bread with your loved ones is a huge key to family harmony and life happiness. So I started out little by little adding friends that wanted to help and helping just 1 family at a time that needed some support. Since 2011 we have helped over 20 families (sometimes we have helped up to 5 at once). Everyone brings meals that they have either cooked on their own, purchased prepared meals on their own and then delivered AND we also have an option where you can pay to have a meal delivered just by making a phone call and paying by credit card (you dont even need to be local). So this is all done on everyones own dime and everyones own time. We are not a legal entity and we do not take donations sometimes we will help a family with a fundraiser and during the holidays we have collected donations to give gifts right back to the families. This entire group is run by me but I do credit many friends and family with support and volunteering their time and talents to help continue this group over the years. So when I say we I really do mean we. Each family is unique but the most common reason we help people is that someone in their family is battling cancer. We schedule meals when is best for the families but we only do it 2x/week. It is usually enough food to have leftovers and most families will tell you that if we delivered more than two days it might be too intrusive. It has been just the right amount of support, financially, emotionally, and mentally. We hope to branch out over time and become more than just a meal service. We are happy you are here to help. Please let us know if youd like to help any of these families in other ways. Thank you everyone, Happy New Year! ~ Teresa
