How many children have previously been taken into care on the basis that their appearance differs from the rest of their family? What evidence was there that there was a threat to the health and welfare of this child? Given that the family involved have co-operated fully with gardai, what was the justification for taking the child into care while DNA tests were carried out? Did you employ the services of a cultural mediator in your dealings with this family? Do you normally act with such inhumanity towards parents and children or was your attitude in this case influenced by the fact that the tip-off came via a sensationalist crime journalist? To what extent were your actions influenced by the sensationalist media coverage of the Greek case? What supports/services did you offer to the parents in this case to help them deal with the emotional and practical difficulties of what has happened to them in the last few days? What ongoing supports/services will be offered to this child and the parents to deal with the emotional fallout? Were your actions in this case influenced in any way by the ethnic identity of the family? If so will steps will be taken to ensure that in future such racism will not be allowed to influence your actions?
