We have one winter storm exiting, and another storm about to come - TopicsExpress

We have one winter storm exiting, and another storm about to come in right behind it. A significant blizzard for the Northeast is beginning to look more and more likely for early this upcoming week. Areas from the Mid-Atlantic all the way up the Northeast coast could get high snowfall accumulations. Its all going to come down to where exactly this storm system tracks. Before this system reaches the coast, it will be dumping snow across the Northern Plains, Upper Midwest, and the Ohio River Valley. Im going to continue to monitor everything tonight and will have an article out tomorrow. The forecast models are literally dumping feet of snow in places along the East Coast. Another system could dive south later this week and dump even more snowfall over the same areas. My attention will then shift to a potential winter storm around the very beginning of February that could impact the Deep South. The European model is still suppressing the moisture way to the south, but that really isnt a big surprise. Model guidance is showing a big Arctic blast around that timeframe, so Im thinking that the model is wanting to suppress the storm further south because of a dominant northern jet stream. It did that will the current storm, but the system ending up moving much further north. I may have an article out on that also tomorrow. That was my original plan, but given the big early week winter storm potential, my focus is on that currently. I told you that winter wasnt over. You just have to have a little faith in the forecasts I put out. :) -Matthew
