We have received this e-mail update today from Zoe who is one of our clients. Zoe is walking the 3 peaks for charity............ Hi everyone, Well D Day is drawing closer and closer – 19 days to go. A huge thank you to everyone who has sponsored me to date – there are a lot of anonymous sponsors on the list so apologies if you have sponsored me and I have not personally said thank you. Next week I am back in the Lake District walking my butt off – one last push to get those muscles in shape! As a reminder and for those of you unaware,– there are 25 of us doing this walk to raise money for the Helen and Douglas Children’s hospice, in memory of my best friend’s daughter Ellie, who sadly died aged 4 in the spring of this year. The love and care that Ellie and her family received during those final weeks was humbling – and it didn’t stop there. Ellie’s big sister Aaryanna still receives sibling support and counselling to this day – and for a ten year old girl, understanding ‘why’ has been a tough thing. Amazingly, this hospice is run almost entirely on charitable donations – without fundraising like this it simple wouldn’t exist. And yet when Ellie needed their care, there was no question about who would pay or whether there was enough space, funding, time or resource for her. It just happened. We are walking the three peaks – a gruelling 26 miles, 10,000 feet of ascent, in 24 hours. We start Ben Nevis at 5am on Saturday 21st September, we will then drive down to Scafell Pike in the Lake District, and finally, we will start Snowdon in the pitch dark at midnight, hoping to be down by 5am the next morning. There’s no doubt our legs are going to be aching but we are doing this in memory of a little girl who was never even able to lift her head up. So please please, if you have not already, sponsor me by clicking on the link below (which is in the name of Iain Gordon, Ellie’s dad). Even if it’s only a pound – it all adds up and will make such a difference to the lives of the next family that need this special care and support when facing the imminent death of a child. Thank you all once again, and wish me luck for the big day! my.helenanddouglas.org.uk/3peaksforellie Zoë Elkins
