We have some truly amazing news to share with you & yes we probably are going to make you cry. Last week we took a call from another rescue desperately looking for places for two female JRTs who were being kept outside in very poor conditions. One girl was estimated to be 15 years old & the other around 10 years old. They had approached a number of other rescues before us but everyone was full with no available spaces. Sadly it had also been suggested that given their age & condition they should be PTS. Fate brought them to us & as you know we are a foster based rescue, we too were full to overflowing but with YOUR help we raised the funds for the girls to go into emergency boarding at a local kennels. Both girls were scanned from nose to tail & everywhere in between to check for a microchip but nothing was found. Our girls were in a terrible state but had been bathed, groomed & pampered before a trip to the vets for a health check. We do repeatedly scan all of our dogs for chips as they can migrate around the body after implantation in the back of the neck & as usual we re-scanned the dogs. Imagine the moment when we heard the beep! Yes one of the girls was chipped & not only that she was listed on the database as being missing since 2011. We think the chip may have been shielded by the dense, matted fir & debris in her coat. Despite being estimated to be about 10 years old due to her condition when found Pippa is actually only five & a half. We are overjoyed to tell you that Pippa has been reunited with her owners & her canine housemate after 4 years of being missing. Please make sure your pets are microchipped & that you keep your contact details up to date with your chip company. If you have a missing pet please dont give up hope. Pippa was being kept in a yard not far from her home address & is thought to have been there the entire time she was missing. Her owners had notified the microchip company when she was lost & had informed the Dog Warden. They searched the local area & put up posters. The person who found Pippa kept her & claims in retrospect to have informed the Dog Warden. Had this been the case Pippa would have been reunited straight away. It is a legal requirement to inform the Dog Warden if you find a dog. Please have a look at Dog Lost for further information on what to do if you have lost or found a dog. doglost.co.uk/ Thank you all for your support & donations that enabled us to rescue Pippa & her friend. We will give you an update on Pippas friend who remains with us later today. She is also out of emergency boarding & is comfortable at home with one of our foster mums & some new doggy friends. And finally, welcome home Pippa. jackrussellterrierrescueuk.org/about-us
