We have some very sad news to report. Between feedings of the chicks at the chickadee nest box a house wren came in and removed 4 of the 6 chicks. 2 chicks were left in the nest box but out of the nest cavity. When the chickadee parent returned it sat on the chicks outside of the nest cavity then coaxed them back into the nest cavity. While out of the box getting more food the wren returned hours later and removed the two remaining chicks from the nest box. The female returned later and sat on an empty nest until around 1 AM when she decided to give up the nest box. We have never seen a house wren remove chicks before, but we have seen them remove eggs.
