We have spent the last two days dealing with check fraud. Apparently someone took an envelope out of our mail box. It was a magazine renewal for which we had written a check for $36. Yesterday a man went to a branch of our bank and tried to cash the check that the amount had been changed to $3600. Thanks to a great bank teller the check and his ID were seized. He fled the scene. We were told by the bank fraud dept that people are looking for mail boxes with the red flag up and are stealing envelopes that look like they contain payments. Be aware of this happening. No. VA has been targeted the bank rep told me. Our payments will now be taken to the P.O. Thank goodness for an alert teller.
