We have spoken to the doctors about mothers fractured hip. The options arent that great, but it is what it is. My brother and I have agreed that taking her out of her Alzheimers resident place (for surgery) at this point would be hugely traumatizing for her. The other option was to keep her where she is at, and give her pain meds while attempting Physically therapy. I told my brother - either option - once she feels better it will be hard to keep her immobile. That can be good or bad under the circumstances. We have decided to allow her to heal naturally with therapy at her place. Hospitalizing her could advance her Alzheimer rapidly due to the trauma - and other factors. Neither option guarantees she will walk again, and she is too advanced to learn the walker they feel. They have many residents there in wheelchairs that glide all over the place - like she used to walk all over the place. The doctor told us we had a very difficult decision to make, but when he takes his doctor hat off? He told us if it was his mother he would have done the same thing as we did. They got her UP yesterday - after being in bed on morphine after the spill. Sounds like they will have her on a morphine patch after this, and give her extra when needed. Do this for 10 days, and re evaluate after that. A fractured hip wasnt even on my radar for some reason, and I know its not uncommon...lol yet it still want on my radar for things to happen.
