We havent forgotten you! Thats the message I want the people of Oak Grove and Marche to know. Maumelle has overlooked the importance of extending Carnahan Drive. Im glad the Council is reviewing plans to remove Carnahan Drive thereby lessening the impact of a 4 lane divided road carving through neighborhoods in Country Club of Arkansas and over the homes of one family. However, we have a plan to reintroduce Carnahan in a meaningful way that will keep our promises and improve life for our residents. There are two misconceptions that have been accepted by people in Maumelle 1. That Carnahan Drive is cost prohibitive -- a meeting that took place between engineers and the Mayor in July (the Council wasnt invited nor was the public told) revealed that a causeway crossing of the White Oak Bayou would only cost 1.4 million dollars vs. the 10+ million dollar bridge weve been told before that was our only option. 2. That the EPA will not allow Maumelle to cross the White Oak Bayou. I reject this altogether. Maumelle just like any other city or state agency can apply for a section 404 permit with the US Corps of Engineers (weve done so already on the Counts Massie Extension). This would provide a permit to cross the bayou for a very necessary road. I have spoken with a federal official who has indicated that such a project is quite doable. Maumelle cannot and should not bend its knee to the EPA on a project that would allow us to deliver on the promise to Oak Grove and Marche to bring a road there, improve the evacuation scenarios for the HS and MS, and allow for buses to reach the schools with greater ease (currently the bus barn is located in Oak Grove). With help from Holloway engineering, an alternative is already in the works and should be added to the master street plan in early 2015. I hope that the city will make this project a priority so we can improve access in and out of Maumelle and deliver on the promise to our neighbors. arkansasmatters/story/d/story/maumelle-official-says-dead-end-is-a-safety-issue/18062/js3rZkJ5FkmgBnRr3A1lww
